Adriano Bastos and Renee High are winners at 20th annual Disney World Marathon
Adriano Bastos, 34, of Sao Paulo, Brazil won the 20th edition of the Disney World Marathon in Orlando, FL, on Jan. 13 with a winning time of 2:21:16. Bastos had won the event previously in 2003 and 2005-2010. He finished second last year to Fredison Costa, 35, of Piedade, Brazil, but this year it was Costa who took the runner-up spot, finishing in 2:21:32. Matt Hensley, 25, of Port St. Lucie, FL, repeated as the third-place finisher, running 2:24:58.
Renee High, 31, of Virginia Beach, VA, repeated as the women's winner in 2:48:30. Second place went to Antonia Silva, 35, of Fortalez, Brazil in 2:59:30, while Claudia Dumont, 35, of Belo Horizone, Brazil was close behind for third in 2:59:36.
Masters winners were Ronnie Holassie, 41, of Mirimar, FL, in 2:25:26 and Wendy Johnson, 44, of Dublin, OH, running 3:22:14.
The Disney World Half Marathon was held on Jan. 12. Mike Morgan, 31, of Rochester Hills, MI, was the overall winner in 1:05:26. Melissa White, 30, of Shelby Township, MI, was the women's winner in 1:14:56.
An estimated 65,000 runners participated in the weekend events.
