2012 AJC Peachtree Road Race Registration Lottery Opens March 15
The Atlanta Track Club, organizer of the AJC Peachtree Road Race which takes place each year on the Fourth of July, announced that registration for the 2012 event will open on Thursday, March 15 through an online lottery at www.ajc.com/peachtree. The Atlanta Track Club first introduced the registration lottery for Peachtree in 2011 as a way to establish a fair registration process for all entrants. Those wishing to be one of the 60,000 participants selected for the 43rd running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race can register for the lottery online at ajc.com/peachtree from 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012, to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012. Regardless of the day or time one enters, all individuals and groups who enter the lottery will have an equal chance of being selected for the 2012 AJC Peachtree Road Race. Entrants will be randomly selected after the lottery closes on March 22. All lottery entrants will receive an email by Monday, March 26, 2012 informing them of whether or not they were selected for the 2012 event. Searchable results of the selection process will also be posted on www.peachtreeroadrace.org and www.ajc.com/peachtree on March 26.
“The AJC Peachtree Road Race is a Fourth of July tradition, and for so many members of the Atlanta community, the Peachtree serves as an achievable fitness goal,” said Tracey Russell, executive director of the Atlanta Track Club and race director of the AJC Peachtree Road Race. “The Atlanta Track Club is committed to helping Atlantans stay fit and healthy, and with the opening of the registration lottery in March, we are looking forward to another exciting event in 2012.”
As in 2011, for those wishing to participate in Peachtree, the online lottery will allow for up to 10 people to enter as a “Group.” During the selection process, if a “Group” is selected, everyone in the group will receive entry into the event with each individual within the “Group” being placed in the appropriate start wave based on their finish time submitted during registration. On the contrary, if a “Group” is not selected, no one in the group will receive an entry. Those entering the lottery as a “Group” will have an equal opportunity of getting into the event as those who enter as individuals. Those who enter the lottery and are not selected for the event two years in a row will receive guaranteed entry into Peachtree the following year.
Atlanta Track Club members will continue to receive an early and guaranteed entry opportunity into the AJC Peachtree Road Race provided their memberships are current as of February 1, 2012. Special consideration will also be given to “streakers” – those who have participated in 10 or more Peachtrees – if they register through the lottery and don’t get selected.
The 43rd running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race will take place on Wednesday, July 4, 2012. Entry into the 10K event is $35 plus applicable online processing fees. Entrants will have the opportunity to pick up their number on Monday, July 2 or Tuesday, July 3 at the Peachtree Health and Fitness Expo at the Georgia World Congress Center or pay a $7.50 convenience fee to have it mailed. Additional details regarding the 2012 AJC Peachtree Road Race including registration information, start wave placement details and specifics on the Peachtree Health and Fitness Expo are available at peachtreeroadrace.org.
