17.75K Sells Out in 40 Minutes

All 2500 runners have filled available entries for the Marine Corps 17.75K. Within the first 40 minutes registration opened, runners from 36 states feverishly registered to secure their place in the unique distance event that also offers guaranteed entry to the 38th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM).

The Marine Corps 17.75K is an 11.03 mile run through Prince William County, VA on Saturday, March 23, that honors the year the U.S. Marine Corps was established. All 17.75K finishers (age 14 and up) will receive secured spots into the 38th MCM, just four days before the event opens to public registration.

"What a thrilling afternoon this has been to sell out the Marine Corps 17.75K," said Rick Nealis, MCM Director. "Runners, who have anxiously awaited this opportunity, have responded from across the country even quicker than anticipated to obtain their place in 'The People's Marathon.' This is a good day for the MCM and for the running community."

The first to register for the 17.75K was Melinda Neuman, 27, of Topeka, KS, who will be running her first marathon at the MCM. "I decided this year I wanted to run a full marathon and I've never been to the D.C. area before, so I registered quickly to obtain entry to the Marine Corps Marathon," Neuman said.

The 17.75K course will begin on Route 234 in Prince William County, VA and continue throughout scenic Prince William Forest Park. 17.75K finishers will have two days to register for the MCM before public registration opens at noon EST on March 27. The 38th MCM will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27, in Arlington, VA and throughout Washington, D.C.

The MCM Event Series, which also includes the Run Amuck and Mini Run Amuck mud runs, the new
Crossroads 4-Miler and the Turkey Trot 10K and Kids Mile is open for registration at www.marinemarathon.com. The Marine Corps Historic Half, new Historic 10K and Semper Fred 5K, which will be held on Sunday, May 19 in Fredericksburg, VA, are also open for online registration.

The MCM Event Series and Marine Corps Historic Half weekend of events are organized by the MCM and U.S. Marine Corps.
